“I firmly believe that neither Labour, the Tories or UKIP will do what is best for Wales on a UK level with regards to Brexit and the Greens and Plaid Cymru simply don’t have the presence to be a credible alternative to Labour in Swansea East. That only leaves one choice for those who care about securing the future growth of this area and that choice is the Liberal Democrats.”

“Any deal must also recognise important variations between the Welsh economy and the rest of the UK. Manufacturing and exports play a larger role in our economy and therefore we have different needs in terms of the kind of EU departure that would suit us best. Norway has full access to the single market but is exempt from EU rules on agriculture, fisheries, justice and home affairs. Switzerland also has a free trade agreement with the EU but has a different relationship from Norway’s. It is clear, therefore, that there is room for negotiation on what type of relationship an EU deal requires and we must not rule out the option of remaining within the single market.”
