LONDON, ENGLAND

Wales For Europe had a strong presence in last Saturday’s #UniteForEurope’s march on Parliament.

The sun was shining, spirits were high, and we were all ready to show that we will not be cowed by the recent, awful terrorist attack only a few days previously. Beginning on Park Lane, the march route passed famous landmarks including the Ritz Hotel, St James’ Palace, Trafalgar Square, Downing Street before eventually leading to Parliament Square.

With our “Wales For Europe/Cymru Dros Ewrop” banner, and our branded T-Shirts, we were able to provide a base for all our fellow countrymen to congregate and network (although, there were so many people, we weren’t able to meet up with our fabulous North Wales contingent until about halfway through!

What was a hallmark of the entire day was the carnival-like atmosphere; there were even a few renditions of Hen Wlad Fy’n Nhadau, Calon Lân, Sosban Fach and Cwm Rhondda! At one point, on the last stretch to parliament, supporters in the flats above us played the famous Beatles song, “All You Need Is Love” which got the whole crowd singing along!

We set up camp just behind the iconic statue of Wales’ only prime minister, David Lloyd George to listen to the excellent speakers who were due to speak. A moment’s silence was held at the beginning in tribute to those who had been injured and who had fallen just metres away a few days earlier.

Check out a short video of the crowd at Parliament Square!
